The funeral
Calvary Cemetery — Queens, New York
In the New York guidePlan a day here
On screen
A lavish funeral for Don Vito Corleone, with countless wreaths and the Manhattan skyline behind. Michael stands by the grave and waits: his father warned him that whoever comes to him proposing a meeting with Barzini is the traitor. Then Tessio, one of the Don’s two veteran capos, comes over and proposes exactly that.
The place today
A vast Catholic cemetery in Queens facing the Manhattan skyline, the view behind the funeral. According to Scouting NY, the large cross-topped Daly monument seen in the scene is still there, and the grass beside it is where the Corleone monument stood. It is a working cemetery: visit quietly and respectfully.
