In the main square Michael and Kay join the wedding guests at an “opera dei pupi”, Sicily’s traditional puppet theatre. The puppets play the local legend of the Baroness of Carini, a tale of a father, a daughter and honour that ends in blood. Many see it as a foreshadowing of the film’s ending.
The place today
The square in front of the Holy Trinity church (Sant’Agostino) and its 16th-century Augustinian convent, entered through the Arco Durazzesco gate. On screen it is “Corleone’s” main square.
