Communion party at Lake Tahoe
Fleur du Lac — Homewood, Lake Tahoe, California
On screen
1958. Michael’s son Anthony makes his First Communion, and the family celebrates at its estate on the shore of Lake Tahoe. As at Connie’s wedding, Michael receives guests in his study: Senator Geary, who demands a bribe, Frank Pentangeli from New York, and Johnny Ola, Hyman Roth’s envoy. That night machine-gun fire rakes Michael and Kay’s bedroom.
The place today
According to movie-locations, this is the industrialist Henry J. Kaiser’s estate on Lake Tahoe’s west shore. Today it is a private gated community with no public access. The stone boathouses seen in the film are best viewed from the water, on a lake cruise or from a kayak.
Did you know? In the story the estate is on the Nevada side, but Fleur du Lac is on the lake’s west shore, in California.
