After their mother’s funeral Michael seems to have forgiven Fredo. Fredo goes out fishing on the lake with Al Neri, having taught little Anthony that a Hail Mary helps you catch fish. At the last moment Anthony is called back to shore. In the boat, while Fredo murmurs the prayer, Neri shoots him. Michael watches it all from the boathouse window.
The place today
According to movie-locations, this is the industrialist Henry J. Kaiser’s estate on Lake Tahoe’s west shore. Today it is a private gated community with no public access. The stone boathouses seen in the film are best viewed from the water, on a lake cruise or from a kayak.
