Camping on the cliff top
Malham Cove — Malham, Yorkshire Dales
In the Northern England guidePlan a day here
On screen
After Ron walks out, Harry and Hermione are left alone. They pitch their tent on a vast limestone pavement above a cliff, in the windswept Yorkshire hills.
The place today
Free. Walk from the pay-and-display car park by the National Park Centre in Malham village, then climb about 400 stone steps to the top. The edge is unfenced and the cracks are slippery when wet. There are no toilets at the cove.
Did you know? Filming took place in November 2009. The cliff is about 80 metres high, and the pavement on top is made of limestone blocks split by deep cracks.
