In the Rome guidePlan a day here
On screen
Anthony’s opening night in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. The whole family sits in the gilded boxes, and while the opera unfolds, Michael’s men set out to eliminate his enemies. The theatre was closed for restoration at the time, so the auditorium, stage and boxes were rebuilt at Cinecittà in Rome.
The place today
Italy’s great film studios, opened in 1937, Fellini’s home turf. The Teatro Massimo auditorium was rebuilt here, and, according to movie-locations, so was the Atlantic City meeting room. The public can visit the Cinecittà si Mostra exhibition, with paid guided tours among the sets. Take Metro line A to Cinecittà station.
