On screen

Ron and Harry follow the Hogwarts Express north. The car drops down onto the viaduct, the train comes up behind them, and Harry is left dangling from the open door until Ron hauls him back in.

The place today

A working railway viaduct on the Fort William–Mallaig line. From the National Trust for Scotland visitor centre car park, a path climbs to the viewpoint in about 15 minutes. The Jacobite steam train crosses in season (in 2026, June to late October; book ahead), and ordinary trains cross all year. Never walk on the viaduct.

Did you know? Built between 1897 and 1901, it is Scotland’s longest concrete railway bridge. According to the National Trust for Scotland, it appears in three Harry Potter films.
