Buckbeak
Virginia Water Lake — Windsor Great Park, Surrey
In the London guidePlan a day here
On screen
In Hagrid’s first lesson as a teacher he introduces the class to Buckbeak the hippogriff. Harry bows, is allowed to climb on, and is carried on a flight skimming the lake. When Malfoy insults Buckbeak, he gets slashed.
The place today
A lake in Windsor Great Park, with a walking path of about 8 km around it. Entry is free and parking is paid. The exact filming spot isn’t documented; the Google Maps link opens the little Cascade at the lake’s eastern end, where the fourth film also shot.
Did you know? An on-set report from August 2003 describes a paddock set on the lakeshore, with doubles for Ron and Malfoy and extras at the fence.
