On screen

On Dudley’s birthday the Dursleys take the boys to the zoo. At a snake tank Harry discovers he can talk to snakes: the glass vanishes, Dudley tumbles in, and the escaping snake hisses its thanks.

The place today

London Zoo, in Regent’s Park; entry is ticketed. The reptiles moved to a new building in 2024, and in October 2025 the old 1926 Reptile House reopened as ZooTown, a play space for young children.

Did you know? According to London Zoo, the tank used was actually its black mamba’s. The talking snake was computer-generated.
