In the first task of the Triwizard Tournament Harry must snatch a golden egg from a Hungarian Horntail. The dragon breaks its chain and chases him on his broom far over the mountains, until Harry doubles back and grabs the egg.
The place today
On foot only: from the car park at the end of the Glen Nevis road it’s about 45 minutes each way on a rough path through a narrow gorge. Wear sturdy shoes. It’s free.
Did you know? Steall is Scotland’s second-highest waterfall, with a drop of about 120 metres; the scenery around it served as backdrop for the task and the chase.
