Gloucester Cathedral, the cloister — Gloucester

In the Oxford guidePlan a day here

On screen

Harry and Ron think they have a free period and wander the corridors. Professor McGonagall catches them and sends them to Slughorn’s Potions class, where Harry gets an old textbook full of notes by “the Half-Blood Prince”.

The place today

A working cathedral; entry is free, with a suggested donation. The cloister, with its famous fan vaulting, is open in visiting hours, which change around services and events. Harry Potter cloister tours run on some Saturdays.

Did you know? Filming in February 2008 brought Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Maggie Smith to the cloister, with 174 local children as extras.
